Exam Week

Last week was exam week for my oldest. (My second oldest only started his term three weeks ago so I didn't bother doing exams with him.) I was interesting to see how well he is doing and see where we need to change things a bit. It was fun to be surprised at some of the details he remembered. Exams were done orally and I recorded the questions and his responses in a composition notebook. For every exam week we have, I'll add questions and responses. I will be able to keep quite a few years recorded in one book. I'd say his strongest area is Bible. He remembers much of what we have read. (Why did Joseph's brothers hate him? Photo Contest

A picture of my 9 yo son won a photo contest! The contest was for Simply Charlotte Mason. You can view the winning photos here. All the photos are great. How cute is that little boy with his guitar and cowboy hat? My son won in the Child Doing Handicraft or Life Skill category. While we were staying at the RV park, he helped a woman put up a temporary fence around her lot. That boy loves to work with his hands.

The end of Week 12 also marks the end of Term 1. That means we will be starting a new composer and new artist. On Tuesdays we meet at a local park with other homeschoolers in the West Valley. The kids have an organized physical activity and then we eat a picnic lunch together. On the first Friday of the month we have book club. Each child brings a book he has read (or Mom read to him) and shares it. Homeschooling doesn't give a kid much opportunity to speak in front of a group so this helps. My 9 yo shared Understood Betsy. My 6 yo shared Mat, one of the Bob Books. He has been able to read this book since he was 4 and thinks of it as his very own, most favorite book. Our 4 yo shared Gus and Button. The story is a little silly but the pictures are very cool. All of the characters and scenery ...
